Push Notification Best Practices

Now that you have the ability to create push notifications you might be wondering what are the best practices? Check out our top 7 tips for becoming a savvy mobile messaging extraordinaire!

  1. Keep it short
People are busy and attention spans are short. 10 or fewer words is the sweet spot!

2. What’s your wow factor?
When sending a message make sure it always is promoting an item, sale, event, tasting etc. We don’t want to spam the users, so making the message meaningful and beneficial is key. The best mobile marketers avoid creating noise but instead deliver thoughtful, creative, informed and strategic messages to the user.

3. Crafting your message

Create a Title for your message: This will show up in bold on the push notification. This is a good place for your Wow Factor. Use the Message space to write the details of your push. You can skip subtitle.

4. Use your words

It is proven in mobile messaging research that words matter. We want messaging to promote an action, and the words included in your message will either get users buying or swiping left. The most successful words in mobile messages are “off” and “come.” Using a message that promote “X% off a product this week” or “come over to Joe’s for a free tasting” are sure to be winners.

5. Time of Day
The best day to send a push notification is Thursday, and the most responsive users (ie: the most clicks) happen between 10AM and 1PM. Probably when most people are stuck at their desk dreaming of a cocktail.

6.  Push notifications and emails
At Drync we have found the most successful campaign at driving sales are the combination of simultaneous emails and pushes. Imagine the scenario: an amazing wine comes in at a great price. You want to get that wine out the door, and you need to communicate it fast. So you quickly send an email to your subscribers (including your app users) promoting the product and right after you send out a push notification with the same information.

We have seen this strategy drive THOUSANDS of dollars in sales. Don’t underestimate this powerful partnership in your marketing toolbox.

7. Know What Works- Insights
Localytics provides several tools for analyzing the effectiveness of your campaigns. After you send out a campaign, check back on the campaign to view total sends, open rate, click rate and rate of conversions.

National Holidays You Can Boost

Wondering what to promote this month? Gain some inspiration from this compilation of national beverage holidays. There are way more than you might think.

Want some help with promotional ideas and execution? Don’t hesitate to reach out. We can help maximize your email and social media campaigns with deeplinks and promo codes.

Using Deeplinks

What is a Deeplink?

A deep link or branch link is a link created to specify a dictionary of data that you want to pass into the app, so that you can take the user to a specific product, or piece of content within the app.

To put it simply, deeplinks differ from regular web links because they allow you to bring a user directly to the product or collection you’re featuring in the app. Without the deeplink, users would be brought to their app store, even if they already had the app.

Why is This Important?

Deeplinking is important because it makes the experience more enjoyable for the user, which ultimately can encourage purchases. It’s a win-win.

Using deeplinks also allows you to drive growth and be more targeted in your marketing promotions tactics.

Without deep linking analytics, identifying who your rock star platform users are requires a substantial amount of custom analytics. Identifying what users on your platform are driving the most installs becomes tough and even harder to continue promoting.

Smart Banners

What is a Smart Banner?

A Smart Banner is a way to raise awareness about your app while a user is already viewing your website on their mobile device. If a user is viewing your website on their phone, a Smart Banner pops up informing users to open or download your app. The link is known as a "smart link," meaning it includes the routing logic to automatically open the app when a user clicks on it.

If the app is already installed on a users device, the Smart Banner will launch the app when a user clicks on it. If the user does not have your app on their device, tapping the Smart Banner will direct the user to download the app in the App Store.

If your app is not available in the user's location, the banner will not display.

Example of the Smart Banner if the user does not already have your app installed.

iTunes Search & Google Ads

Using best practices from Apple iTunes Search, Drync will create and measure paid search campaigns for keywords in four key search term segments:

  • Competitor Terms

  • Generic Non-Brand Terms

  • Brand Terms

  • Apple Search Match

We will establish target audiences, set maximum bids and budgets for each segment, measure performance and modify campaigns regularly to maximize results/ROI.

Managing Ads is a service provided by Drync's team of marketing experts. Please connect with accounts@drync.com if you are interested in taking advantage of this service.

Your App Store Display

Your app store display is a public space where interested users can get to know your store, unique marketing message and why they should download your app.

To finalize your app store display, you will need to approve:

  • The Name of Your App

    • The name of your app does not have to be the exact name of your store. It's okay to get creative; something like, "Joe's Liquor Barn Express" distinguishes the app but maintains your brand.

  • Your App Store Description

    • Example: "Put Joe's Liquor Barn in your pocket! Shop more than 10,000 wines, spirits and beers from your phone and have your order ready for you at the store. Search products by name, browse by filter or snap a photo of the product's label with your app.

Simply snap a photo of what you are drinking and save your personal rating. If we have it, you can buy it from your phone in seconds and choose your Joe's Liquor Barn pick-up location. If not, Joe's Liquor Barn will give you recommendations of similar items that we have in stock. You can also search products by name or filter by style, region and variety."

  • Hex Colors for Your App

    • These set the guidelines for primary and secondary colors that will be used in your app to maintain your branding.

  • App Keywords

    • Your app's keywords are what Drync will use to set up search criteria for your app.
